AF Container AF65970

Built by BR Earlestown 1958

This container when it arrived after several years being on a farm, the wooden frame clad with aluminium sheet, it was all beyond repair the wood was rotten and the aluminium sheet was battered and torn. The decision was taken to build a replica container out of steel, using all the attachments, hinges straps and rubber bumpers from the original.

The completed container was painted into a local livery of Birds Eye of Lowestoft / Yarmouth fame as they had train loads of containers delivering their frozen products. They used the very similar AFP type slightly longer and with two doors on the end which allowed pallet truck loading / unloading.
